The new lights at World Series Field at Heritage Park aren't made of gold, but we hope to help pay for them by selling a little gold.

Gold-plated coins commemorating the “Light Up the Series” effort that will light up the Junior League World Series in August are being sold for $20 each.

Each of the coins is numbered and has a grooved edge like a quarter. One side has an artist’s rendering of World Series Field and “1981,” the year the series started. The other side has a rendering of baseball field lights.

To order a coin, send a check payable to the Junior League World Series to

22667 Maplelawn, Taylor, MI 48180. Include $2 per coin for shipping and handling. Donations and contributions can be sent to the same address.

Orders also will be taken by phone at

(734) 287-8836.

2009 World Series
The 29th annual Junior League World Series of baseball will be played August 16-22, 2009, at World Series Field in beautiful Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan – the only place the prestigious event has been held.  Heritage Park is just six miles from Detroit Metropolitan Airport and a short distance from both I-75 and I-94.

The Junior League World Series is a spectacular weeklong international tournament for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-old baseball players from around the world. Founded in 1981, the Junior League World Series is the “older brother” of the Little League World Series held annually in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for the best teams of 12-year-olds.

Like the Little League series, the Junior League World Series has a storied history. The Junior League World Series began as a tournament for the best teams of 13-year-old players. It has blossomed to include 14-year-olds and now attracts teams from around the globe: from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, Canada and, of course, the United States. To date, teams have come from 27 different states in the U.S., four Canadian provinces, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Guam, Poland, Venezuela, Saipan, Russia, and The Netherlands and Indonesia, which debuted in 2006 after winning the regional tournament held for teams from the Asia-Pacific region.

Ample motels, restaurants, churches and shopping malls are in the immediate area.
